Description:
Cakes4Kids is a nonprofit organization that helps children in poor countries get birthday cakes. Since their families are very poor and barely are able to buy enough food to get by, they surely can’t afford to have birthday parties or eat cakes on that special day of the year. Cakes4Kids is very determined to help these children get their birthday parties that they have never received.
We find children in need and have them fill out a form saying the type of cake they would like to have on their upcoming birthday. We would need to know their interests and preferences so that we could make their cake unique to them, as well as how many people would be eating the cake so that we would know what size to make the cake. How it works is cooking or baking classes or kids will fill out a form saying that they would like to make a cake for these kids. Then, we will contact either their teacher or parent by phone and set up a date for the cake to be picked up by our crew. The cake will then immediately get shipped to a child in the third world country, and with the cake we will send a camera and another box so that they can take pictures of the cake and child and then send it back to us.

Target Audience
Our target audience is primarily Home Ec classes in school that have an interest in making baked goods and donating them to bring joy to the lives of poor children. Our target audience also includes teenagers that have an interest in pursuing culinary arts while providing joy and hope for children of third world countries by baking them birthday cakes and giving them delicious pastries.

Goal
To provide joy to poor children by sending them delectable birthday treats.
Background and History
Emma Mandarino and Elizabeth Casey are the founders of this organization. They first came up with it when on Elizabeth Casey’s birthday, they were together eating a lovely vanilla and chocolate cake. They were enjoying it so much, when Emma suddenly realized how upsetting it would be to have a birthday, but no cake, thus it Cakes4Kids was formed.
Success Stories
About a year ago, poor little Rukmani’s birthday came along and her family could not afford a birthday cake. When Cakes4Kids came along, we stepped in right away and baked little Rukmani a chocolate ice cream cake with cream filling. She was absolutely overjoyed and our satisfaction was indescribable. From then, we knew we had to continue our practice of donating baked goods to the lives of third world children.
Future Projects
On May 12, 2011, Cakes4Kids is going to have a bake event called the Bake them Cakes! It is located at the Giant Oven Cafe in Asif, New Jersey. You can come and we will have all of the ingredients and tools needed to bake goods! However, you are not limited to just our recipes, come and bring your own secret ingredients and make your own cake! Children in Third World Countries will love it!
Volunteers
We need volunteers to come help set up and assist for this event. You would assist people in baking and make sure nothing goes wrong, as well as help us shop for ingredients and things of that sort.
